HISTORY OF TINANG ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Barangay Tinang is located 15 kilometers away from the town proper, the shortest distance passing along the interior roads of Barangay Talimundoc and Pitabunan. It is surrounded with agricultural lands mostly palay. Children of school age go to nearby barangays for their primary and elementary education like Talimundoc Primary School, a 7 kilometer distance from Barangay Tinang. With this situation, they could hardly finish their primary education. Only children of well – to – do families could earn a good education.

In view of this therefore, the late Benigno S. Aquino Sr. upon the request of the people of Tinang, donated a one – hectare land for the school site. In 1935 – 1936 (peacetime) until World War II broke out, a two – room building was constructed through the joint efforts of the Tenyente del Barrio named Mr. Lusung and a concerned citizen Mr. Narciso Timbol. They opened the school with combination classes Grade I & II, Grades III & IV. Classes were composed of people who are of school age, adults and teenagers. It was pioneered with 3 teachers namely: Mrs. Aurora David, Mr. Pedro Manuel and Mrs. Felisa Ramos. It was a satellite school of Talimundoc Elementary School with Mr. Santiago Magcalas as TIC. Unfortunately, the building was destroyed by harmful bats and became unserviceable. After World War II, another building was constructed sponsored by PHILCAG in 1946. Before the construction of this building, education was held under the trees and big houses of some residents.

In 1965, school population increased tremendously due to migration of some families hired to work in the Hacienda. With the joint effort of the people of Tinang and Gov. Danding Cojuanco, a Marcos Type Building was constructed and a 3 – room building was donated by the people of Tinang in 1968. As the population grows, a teacher – in – charge was assigned to supervise the school in the person of Mr. Ruben E. Cayanan who later became a Head Teacher then a Principal in 1978. The first graduation exercises took place in 1970. For some personal reasons, Mr. Cayanan transferred to San Agustin Elementary School and Mrs. Cleopatra G. Pineda, a Head Teacher of Sto. Cristo Elementary School was promoted to occupy Tinang Elementary School as Principal I on June 13, 1988.

The school population has grown so much with 618 enrolment and 16 teachers and 3 newly constructed buildings, which are as follows:

1.2 – room building (President Social Fund – PSE) I 1991

2.5 – room building (Congressional) October 1995

3 – Fidel V. Ramos Building (FV’s 2000) March 1995

Through the years, different school administrators took took turns in serving as principal, to wit: Mr. Bernabe Z. Yumul (1995 – 2000), Mr. Amando D. Salta (2000 – 2004), Mr. Sonny P. Uson (2004 – 2006), Mrs. Francisca T. Balbin (2006 – 2007), Mr. Constancio B. Lagmay (2007 – 2012) and Mrs. Virginia N. Villanueva (2012 – present).
